The interested reader may have previously picked up some subtle (not really too subtle) hints that all is not well regarding the racial treatment of benders. The Boss referring to the Bender as a “teleportation-witch” in this context might sound an awful lot like a racial slur to 21st century AD sensibilities, but 26th century IS culture actually uses their equivalent of the word “witch” as a term for a female-organed person who is wise, experienced, and powerful. When combined with another word, like teleportation, it’s essentially meant to indicate that person is the best at whatever kind of witch they are. So the Boss is basically saying “turns out the best damn teleporting *Sam Jackson Approved Content* in the galaxy is faster”. It’s a high compliment, but takes up a lot less space when rendered as “teleportation-witch”. The interested reader may also be wondering why, given the extreme display of competence in combat the Bender just displayed, she accompanies the Boss into danger less frequently than Keith. Well, let’s just say she doesn’t handle enemies armed with guns as well as she does enemies trying to ineffectually punch her.
